There were two sets of Pirelli P-Slot wheels. A 7 mil gap between the Ps for the first-generation Mk1, (1977–1984) and a 10 mil gap for the second-generation Mk2, introduced in August of 1983 thru 1992.

Created by engineers as a weekend project, and showcased at the 1975 Frankfurt Motor show, the limited run of 5000 Volkswagen’s Golf GTI MK1 went on sale in June of 1976 as a 1977 model with the type 827 engine’s Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection which generated 110bhp.

Originally available in just two colours, Mars Red and Diamond Metallic Silver, Schwartz Black was added shortly afterwards.

While this image of a 1977 Volkswagen Golf GTI is officially from VW, it is incorrect since the GTI only came with a black VW logo (not chrome).
